Madan Bhimrao Lokur, Chief Justice, High Court of Andhra Pradesh,
Felicitation of Team of Scientists for successful launch of Agni V
Missile, Taj Krishna, Banjara Hills, Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh. The
launch of Agni V is believed to be a game changing move for India in
missile technology and defence augmentation. The missile, measuring 17 m
in length, 2 m in width and weighing 50 tonnes, is capable of carrying
nuclear warheads weighing up to a tonne. Agni-V is a solid fuelled
intercontinental ballistic missile which will greatly expand India's
reach to strike targets well beyond 5,500 km away. Piercing the thin
cloud cover, the missile took off from the launch pad at Wheeler’s
Island in Odisha at 08:07 hours and started rising exactly the way it
was designed for. The three propulsion stages, developed completely
indigenously by DRDO, performed exactly the way they were intended to.
This is a historic moment for DRDO and for the entire country. Agni-V
would also carry MIRV (multiple independently targetable re-entry
vehicles) payloads being concurrently developed. A single MIRVed missile
can deliver multiple warheads at different targets. This is a
remarkable journey; the domestic industry has emerged as a partner and a
friend in the development programme. Nag, the anti-tank missile, K-15
is the under tank missile etc. range, complexity, strike power is
complete for these missiles.
