Vivek B. Gadgil, Chief Executive and Managing Director, L&T Metro
Rail (Hyderabad) Limited, Uppal, Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh. Since, the
project is of huge magnitude and requires efficient and technically
viable solutions for construction to complete the project in the desired
time period, the concessionaire had adopted pre - cast type of
construction thereby ensuring the fastest operations within desired
timelines. This is a segmental type of bridge construction which is
predominant in almost all European countries. The Hyderabad Metro Rail
Project is also one of those type of projects where in the latest
technology of construction is being adopted by using Pre-cast techniques
and erection of these pre-cast elements with the help of economically
designed launching tackles. 28,000 segments will be required to
complete this project. The Uppal precast is supposed to be producing
one-half of such precast elements of the entire project. The required
reinforcement for the segments is tied properly according to the
approved design drawings in a “reinforcement Jig” and a number of such
reinforcement cages depending upon the length and breadth of each
segment are kept ready at the Casting Yard. The finished segment is then
subjected to curing for a minimum of 14 days with the help of water jet
to allow it to attain its required strength. In phase one L& T
will complete the project within three years between Nagole &
Mettuguda.
